Julia Howard

I'm Julia, a Mormon aspiring to be a missionary, a mother, and a marvelous midwife. I adore when people call me Jules and I'm in love with the life I've been blessed enough to lead.

My talents are few, but they include braiding hair, "winging it", and swimming faster than most boys I know. Also, peeing in the woods. That is a skill I have worked hard to master.

I have really cool friends.

Where I'm From

I'm from the greatest state in America, y'all.

Born in its capital and raised by its wild spirit, I am a Texan through and through. I love my state and I love my people. We are kind, we are loving, we can cook, we are semi-fluent in Spanish and we know what a real taco tastes like. As an aspiring world-traveler, I'll leave the lone star long-term for all kinds of adventures, but my heart will always be here, and I will always return.

My Family

I absolutely love my family more than anything. I love our 2-hour long Sunday dinners, sitting on the kitchen counter while I talk to mom, and laughing until I'm blue with my dad. I'm the oldest of [soon to be] six. The baby we're adopting, James, is due in April! My siblings are, truthfully and wholeheartedly, my best friends. Grateful for these people beyond description.

Passions

I am passionate about the human experience: love, connection, kindness, and embracing one another with empathy and compassion. I love people. I love how beautifully and wonderfully we are made in the likeness of our infinite Father in Heaven. I love that no matter what language we speak or what color our skin we have, we can cry, and laugh, and smile, and hug and kiss and run and sing and dance. Everything I try to do is based on this appreciation for who we are as human beings and the capacity we have for love and connection.

For these reasons, I am working to pursue a career in Midwifery. To me, it is so much more than just delivering babies. Through mothers come our Strippling Warriors, and to be by a mother's side as she sacrifices her body and comfort for a child would be my joy. To love and to nurture both her and her child, to sincerely care for them, and to work with compassion is my passion HUGE plus: There is a giant global need for outstanding Midwives. The opportunities for me to live my dream, traveling the world caring for people, are so real and within reach.

The outdoors, too, are such an important part of my life. Backpacking and rock climbing are my favorite things, with kayaking coming in close behind.

My Dream

My dream, ultimately, is to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, marry in the Temple, and raise children to serve and love the Lord. To be a backpacking, rock-climbing, world-traveling midwife is a dream, but my role as a disciple of Christ, a wife, a mother, and a daughter of God comes before all.
